Solar installers are licensed contractors that design, mount and commission photovoltaic systems on rooftops, ground arrays and commercial sites. They handle structural assessment, electrical wiring, inverter and battery integration, grid-connection paperwork, and post-installation maintenance.

Thin-film photovoltaic technologies — including CdTe, CIGS and amorphous silicon — offer alternatives to crystalline silicon, with advantages in low-light performance, weight, flexibility and (for some chemistries) lower carbon footprint.
